The gardens will be open with limited capacity and restricted opening hours to ensure that they can manage social distancing, to protect employees and guests throughout their visit.

Emma Catterall, Divisional Director of Alton Towers Resort said:

“The Gardens have been open to the public in one form or another since 1839, but are often overlooked by guests as they rush from one ride to another. We are delighted to have this opportunity to offer guests the chance to enjoy the Gardens in themselves. We are limiting the number of guests each day, and have put a raft of hygiene and safety measures in place to protect our visitors and employees. We are excited to be welcoming guests back to the Resort and offering families a beautiful place to enjoy time in the outdoors together.”

Here are some of the things that guests can expect:

• Restricted number of guests, so everyone is being asked to book online in advance.
• Temperature checks on arrival at the Resort.
• Updated signage and social distancing markers on the Admissions plaza and other places around the Resort where people tend to gather.
• Sales of food and drinks will be limited to ‘grab and go’ items including hot and cold drinks, snacks and ice creams.
• All rides and other attractions remain closed in line with Government advice.

About the Alton Towers Gardens

Set among the Resort’s 550 acre site, the Alton Towers Gardens offer a beautiful spot for families to enjoy a walk and picnic, and there’s also lots for history fans to enjoy. The Gardens as they are today were largely laid out by Charles Talbot, 15th Earl of Shrewsbury at resident of Alton Towers, over 150 years ago. Work began in 1814 to transform the farmland around the main house into one of the largest formal gardens in Britain, when more than 13,000 trees were planted and many features installed including the Pagoda fountain and the fantastic Conservatory, which has undergone a £1.9m restoration in the past few years. The gardens are lovingly maintained by a team of full time gardeners, who maintain the planting in keeping with Charles Talbot’s original vision.

Information on booking a visit to Alton Towers Gardens

• Guests must book online in advance here.
• Entry is £12 for adults, £5 for children (aged 3-11). Children under 3 are free.
• Merlin Annual Passholders and Alton Tower Season Pass holders will be required to pay a £1 booking fee.
• The gardens will be open every day from Saturday 6th June from 10am until 4pm, with last entry at 2pm.
• There is not charge for parking.
• Guests can buy takeaway hot and cold drinks, snacks and ice creams in the gardens.
• Guests are welcome to bring a picnic, but they do ask that no alcohol is included. Barbecues are not permitted.
• Guests are asked to check the website before they visit to review the hygiene and safety measures that have been introduced and which they can expect to see when they visit.
