Lagotronics Projects, who are based in the Netherlands, has previously worked on Ghost: The Haunted House at LEGOLAND Billund and Ramses: Il Risveglio at Gardaland, which are also operated by Merlin Entertainments.
The project has included interior and exterior improvements, including refurbishment of the carriages, new lighting and audio, repainting and UV paint has been added to the sets. The ride has also received a new logo.
The ride was the first significant special effects attraction of its kind in the UK when it originally opened as the 5th Dimension in 1987. It followed the character of TV repair robot Zappomatic and was created by Mack Rides and Madame Tussauds Studios.
In 1994 the ride became Terror Tomb and later re-named Forbidden Tomb, a horror ride in the dark that told the story of a tomb robber named Abdab and the dangers he encountered trying to steal a gem from the tomb.
In 2002 it was relaunched as Tomb Blaster, with the dark ride modified to become an interactive attraction where riders shoot laser guns at targets.
